Fit in City - Leigh Ann Root
10 Simple Resolutions
1. Move when you can. If you can't seem to find the time to exercise every day, then fit fitness in where ever you can. Take the stairs, walk the parking lot by parking further away, do sit-ups and push ups during commercials, Do squats while you're brushing your teeth, or squeeze your glute muscle while driving in the car. Keep the idea of moving your body in your daily thoughts, you'll be surprised how the little things add up.
2. Smile more. It sure beats a grumpy face. Besides, people who smile are naturally more attractive. People will respond better to you. You might even get some smiles back, I bet.
3. Drink water. Your body needs it. Replace your high calorie (no nutritional value) drinks with it. This is a easy way to lose a few pounds. By keeping yourself hydrated it will help your body in so many other ways.
4. Take Five! Take five minutes each day to just be. Everyone can spare just five minutes! Prepare for your day or reflect on the day you've had. Giving yourself five minute "mini breaks" daily gives you a chance to clear you mind. If you're someone who is rushing around all the time, then you, especially, need this tiny escape.
5. Get fruity! Eat a piece of fruit every day. Start there. Soon you'll crave and want to eat more. It's a healthy sweet treat.
6. Veg out. Put some vegetable into your daily diet. Start with a single serving a day and move on from there. Fuel your body with more wholesome food, it will run better for you.
7. Tune out. Turn that television off for just one night. Play a game, read a book or just socialize. You'll find out somethings your missing out on. It's a nice to have some variety in your life.
8. Find a new interest. Spice up your creative life. Paint some pottery, stain some glass, design some jewelry, or redecorate a room in your house. Now a days it's easy to pick up a new hobby. How about trying something you've never done before? You don't need to be perfect, it could be a great outlet for your stress.
9. Look on the brighter side. Try not to dwell on the negatives that may happen. Instead, be optimistic. What you think, you become. So start thinking positive about your new year. If you do, it will be!
10. Be gracious. Extend kindness to those around you. It will come back to you two-fold. While you're at it, why not forgive and forget too! It doesn't do you any good to hold onto to those old bad feelings, they can drive you crazy. Just let go and begin your new year without any grudges!
So if you haven't picked your new year's resolution yet, these are a few for you to consider. If we all practice being better individuals, our community will be better off for it! Here's to a happy and healthy year for us all!
